Sources of Insight and Inspiration
A hand-picked library of resources on artificial intelligence. Starting with Substack, John's point of view on how AI is reshaping our world. We've also shared a handful of informative and hopefully inspiring posts, podcasts and books.
Picks From John's Substack
"The strongest argument against full automation—and for productive human/AI collaboration—is that the best results come from people who know how to steer, correct, and interpret AI output in real time."
New Tech, Old Thinking, Marketing Needs a Reset!
"We are beginning to invest in the new and unprecedented capacities of Generative AI, but when we look closer we find that aging and probably un-useful paradigms are "baked in" to the structures of its foundation."

The Road To Honest AI: This is an essay, somewhat dense, therefore good, about the issues around AI "honesty." The author is a co-author on a scenario about what (they think) happens when we reach AGI—and ASI (Artificial Superintelligence). That scenario was published as a website. Next link in the list.

AI 2027: Really, I'll just copy/paste their first para, "We predict that the impact of superhuman AI over the next decade will be enormous, exceeding that of the Industrial Revolution." It's a challenging scenario.

LessWrong: I'm linking to the "About" page as the best place to assess how deep you want to go. I have read a few articles and have heard it referenced quite a bit in other resources. If that doesn't;t sound like a ringing endorsement it's not. because LessWrong is a specific taste, not for everyone.

"Attention Is All You Need": a 2017 publication by Google, introduced the Transformer model, a neural network architecture that revolutionized natural language processing. The findings in this paper led to LLMs and Generative AI. You will hear this referred to as "the transformer paper" in other sources. I've read papers about this paper, not the paper itself—it's on my "bucket list" : )
